Originally designed to achieve Passivhaus levels of insulation for the ground floor, and as members of the Passivhaus Trust, Moulded Foams’ GDeck system has already solved the problem of achieving cost effective, Future Homes Standard, highly insulated, suspended ground floors.
A GDeck suspended ground floor comprises of pre-stressed concrete beams, structural EPS beam rails and EPS insulation panels. The silver infill insulation panels provide high thermal performance and being 98% lighter than blocks, significantly reduce dead load on the beams. Combined with high density white EPS rails, which gives GDeck its unique strength, floors with a U-value as low as 0.09 W/m²K can be achieved.
Precise moulded parts mean GDeck is quick and easy to install with minimal waste, and are now available with Litecast, Milbank, Longley and Supreme beams. The GDeck infill panels are 1.2m long, but only weigh 2.5kg. The panels combine both the infill and above beam elements typically found in other floor constructions, so there’s no need to fit a top sheet. This means that a GDeck floor is typically installed, with hand tools, in half the time of a traditional suspended ground floor. Not only does this save in the obvious ways, the lightweight nature of GDeck can help reduce lost time on site due to musculoskeletal disorders (52% of all ill health in the construction sector*). Post installation the GDeck system provides a walking platform with easily identifiable beam locations due to the white EPS rails.
