NHBC new home registrations in 2019 reached 161,022, the highest annual figure for new home registrations since 2007 and 1% up on last year when 158,878 were registered.
Of these 161,022, 112,086 were private sector homes, down 3% on last year’s 115,584, while 48,936 were in the affordable and rental sector, up 13%. Build to Rent registrations grew by 57% from 3,055 in 2018 to 4,788 last year.
NHBC’s annual new homes statistics reveal that London (+37%), West Midlands (+17%) and Eastern (+8%) saw the biggest registration growth while Yorkshire & Humberside (-12%), Wales (-12%) and the South West (-11%) saw the biggest falls.
The record year means that the number of new homes registered to be built per annum in the UK has risen by more than 80% over the past decade from the low of 88,849 in 2009. Over the ten year period (2010 – 2019), a total of 1.4 million new homes (1,405,771) were registered to be built across the UK.
New home completions in 2019 hit 150,436, also marginally up on the previous year (149,702). In contrast to registrations, the strongest regions for completions were Eastern (+12%), Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man …
