The government should establish a cross-departmental housing delivery unit to co-ordinate policy delivery, according to a cross-industry group.
The Radix Big Tent Housing Commission has stated what it wishes to see from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) this year, including a dedicated housing delivery unit that would also engage with key stakeholders such as the Bank of England and financial and utility regulators.
Alex Notay, the Commission’s chair, said the delivery unit would “get government departments out of their silos and working more effectively within and across the complex housing ecosystem”.
The Commission also calls for the publication of the “long-delayed” Future Homes Standard (FHS), “so that the thousands of new homes being built now are climate resilient”.
On December 11, MHCLG issued an update on its FHS page, stating that it would respond to the consultation on the subject in early 2026. After numerous delays, the industry had been expecting the response and final FHS by December 2025.
Heat pumps should be made more affordable, according to the group. It said this could be achieved by switching swiftly to an energy market model where electricity prices can fall below gas prices.
