PM announces “green industrial revolution”

<p><span>The prime minister Boris Johnson has revealed his ten-point plan for a “green industrial revolution”, supporting up to 250,000 jobs</span><span> </span><span>and including the trial of a “Hydrogen Neighbourhood”. </span></p> <p><span>In the UK government’s ambition to achieve net zero carbon by 2050, ministers will pour in £12 billion investment “and spur over three times as much private sector investment by 2030”. </span></p> <p><span>As part of the ten-point plan the PM pledged to make homes, schools and hospitals “greener, warmer and more energy efficient”, creating 50,000 jobs by 2030 and targeting to install 600,000 heat pumps every year by 2028.</span></p> <p><span>He also announced the government’s aim to generate 5GW of hydrogen production capacity by 2030 for industry, transport, power and homes, with the intention to trial a Hydrogen Neighbourhood – using hydrogen for heating and cooking - in 2023, progressing to a Hydrogen Village by 2025.</span></p> <p><span>The government is aiming for a Hydrogen Town, “equivalent to tens of thousands of homes,” before the end of the decade.</span></p> <p><span>Other points relating to housing include accelerating the transition to electric vehicles and “transforming” relevant national infrastructure, planting 30,000 hectares of trees every year, and making the City of London “the global centre of green …
