PfP calls for large scale delivery to ease crisis

<p><span>The industry needs to understand the benefits of large scale places with a change in national policy necessary to achieve 300,000 homes per year, according to research commissioned by Places for People.</span></p><p>The report, <i>Better Understanding of the Housing Marke</i>t, on which Places for People has collaborated with the University of Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research, analyses the UK housing crisis, instructing that the sector “rejuvenates” its appreciation of the advantages of new, large scale development.</p><p><span>In one of 11 recommendations, the research calls upon Homes England to focus on delivery at scale and identify at least ten new growth areas across England, aligning support through grants and loans as well as special purpose vehicles which already exist under legislation. </span></p><p><span>On the last point, Places for People points to Homes England’s Affordable Homes Programme as an example, under which it has been allocated £250 million to deliver more than 4,400 new homes.</span></p><p><span>The placemaker also recommends a review into the way government programmes strategically link together “to create new sustainable large scale places”.
