The industry and government must share “one vision, one plan” to successfully tackle the environmental agenda, David Thomas, ceo of Barratt Developments, said today (November 22).
Speaking at the Future Homes Hub’s first conference in London, Thomas, also chair of the Hub, stressed the need for collaboration across the industry and sharing knowledge “in a way we haven’t before” to meet pressing sustainability goals.
Thomas highlighted the unprecedented challenge of delivering net zero homes to address climate change. “When you look at the pressing matters we have – affordability challenges for customers and challenges in the planning system – we’ve seen all that before. When it comes to these challenges, it puts everything else into context.
“What we do now will have profound implications for the survival of our companies and industry, and the survival of our species and many other species.”
Thomas announced three measures the Hub was taking to drive further collaboration and consistency of approach, also supporting the notion of a single plan.
He said the Future Homes Hub would work in partnership with the NextGeneration Initiative, Homes England and NHBC to create a single set of sustainability metrics.
