The housebuilding industry has largely welcomed the government's revisions to the NPPF, while warning that there is more to do if the ambitious 1.5 million home target is to be met.
This is summed up by Home Builders Federation ceo Neil Jefferson who said: “The swift moves to address the constraints in the planning system are welcome and underline the government’s commitment to increasing housing delivery, but further policy interventions are needed if we are to meet the ambitious target.”
Chris Chiles, ceo of Elivia Homes, agreed: "The updates to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) provide a much-needed boost to the residential development sector. But to deliver 1.5 million homes by the next parliament and achieve long-term certainty for the sector, there are still significant challenges that industry and government must tackle together."
The changes were announced at Alconbury Weald in Cambridgeshire, which has consent to deliver 6,500 homes with five housebuilders on site.
