New home completions by the Top 25 UK housebuilders dropped 19% year on year revealing the effect of the Covid-19 shutdown last year, according to the new Housing Market Intelligence Report which is launched this week (Thursday) at the Housing Market Intelligence Conference.
In all, in the period covered by the report which encompasses 2020, the top firms completed just over 90,000 homes, compared with 111,439 in the 12 months before.
The new Top 25 shows that Barratt remains the biggest housebuilder in the UK, ranked by turnover, with a figure of £3,419 million, down from £4,763 million in the previous year. However Persimmon has moved ahead of Taylor Wimpey into second place this year, closing the gap on Barratt with turnover of £3,328 million, down from £3,649 million previously. Persimmon completed more homes than Barratt in the period – 13,575 compared to 12,604.
TW saw completions drop from 15,855 to 9,609 and turnover drop to £2,727 million. However TW, as with most housebuilders, is reporting a return to near 2019 levels for 2021 which will be reflected in next year's table.
