Minister supports performance gap project

DCLG minister Don Foster has put his backing behind an industry project to tackle the energy "performance gap" between the design of low carbon homes and what they deliver as built.<br> <br> Foster announced a £380,000 grant for the initiative, entitled DvAB (Designed v As-Built) led by the Zero Carbon Hub in partnership with industry bodies including the Home Builders Federation (HBF), Construction Products Association and NHBC. The project will consider the whole construction process and gather evidence of where an energy performance gap could appear.<br> <br> The involved parties will make recommendations to work towards ensuring that new homes deliver the carbon reductions that they are designed to.<br> <br> "This work is fundamental to everything that the housebuilding industry is trying to achieve – we need to be able to demonstrate the improvements that we are making and if not, address those things that we know will make a difference," said Zero Carbon Hub's ceo Neil Jefferson.<br> <br> The funding has been matched by contributions from various organisations.
