Government launches Future Homes Standard consultation

<p><span>The government has launched a consultation on the Future Homes Standard, the initiative that will see all new homes built to “world leading” energy efficiency levels, featuring low carbon heating by 2025.</span></p><p><span>The consultation, proposing changes to Part L (conservation of fuel and power) and Part F (ventilation) to move towards the FHS, includes options to increase energy efficiency requirements for new homes in 2020. These proposals aim to cut carbon emissions in new abodes by “almost a third.”</span></p><p><span>Ministers are seeking views on how changes to Building Regulations can reduce the carbon footprint of homes built after 2025, including alterations to ventilation and efficiency requirements, and the role of local authorities “in getting the best energy standards from developers,” MHCLG said.</span></p><p>“Using new technologies such as air source heat pumps and the latest generation of solar panels, developers will need to ensure they are doing their bit to tackle the threat of climate change,” it said.</p><p>The changes would potentially drive down home owners’ energy bills through improvements to the building fabric and energy efficient heating, MHCLG added.</p><p>The <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/835536/Future_Homes_Standard_Consultation_Oct_2019.pdf">consultation</a>, which closes on January 10, is the first stage of a two-part consultation on proposed changes to Building Regulations.</p><p> </p><p><span>The Future Homes Standard, …
