Future Homes Commission calls for "housing revolution"

A housing revolution is needed to solve the UK's housing crisis, the Future Homes Commission says in a new report.<br> <br> The report calls for 300,000 new homes to be delivered each year, a three-fold increase, on brownfield land "close to virtually every town, city or village".<br> <br> The report, Building the Homes and Communities Britain Needs, recommends:<br> <br> Setting up a £10 billion Local Housing Development Fund funded by local authority pension funds pooling 15% of their assets to invest in rental and shared ownership housing A greater focus on design in new homes, ensuring they meet residents' needs and making them attractive to investors, so that local authority pension funds can recycle their investment A more consumer orientated housing market A lead role for local councils to create sustainable communities. <br> The report was compiled by an independent group of experts headed by Sir John Banham: "We need to increase massively the number of quality homes being built for many years to come," he said.
