Countryside announces net zero strategy

<p><span>Countryside has launched its net zero strategy, with the aim for a “swift transition” to a decarbonised economy and society by 2030.</span></p> <p><span>The mixed-tenure developer said its strategy was based on “stretching” science-based targets verified by the Science Based Target Institute, aligning with international efforts to limit global warming to a 1.5C rise “to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change”. </span></p><p><span>Countryside is targeting a 42% absolute reduction of Scope 1 – (energy - direct emissions) - and Scope 2 – indirect emissions - and a 52% reduction of Scope 3 emissions (indirect – upstream activities), all by 2030.</span></p> <p><span>The business said it was taking a “whole lifecycle” approach to determining the carbon footprint of its value chain, covering not just its own construction and manufacturing operations “but upstream and downstream activities as well”.</span></p> <p><span>And beyond its science-based targets, Countryside has devised a roadmap, detailing its other routes to net zero:</span></p> <p><span>• 31% fewer CO<sub>2</sub> emissions in homes built through improved fabric efficiency, renewable energy and heat recovery systems by 2022 and 75% fewer emissions by 2025 </span></p> <p><span>• 80% fewer CO<sub>2</sub> emissions by switching from diesel to hydrotreated vegetable oil for onsite plant machinery by 2023 </span></p> <p><span>• 60% …
