Conservatives top UK Construction Week poll

<p>The Conservative party has emerged as leader of a pre-election opinion poll conducted by UK Construction Week.</p> <p>The Tories achieved 54% of the vote in a survey involving more than 1,000 product manufacturers, contractors, architects, housebuilders, developers and suppliers, who were asked for their views on policies relevant to construction.</p> <p>At the same time, 71% of the respondents stated that none of the key political parties had addressed the needs of the industry in their election campaigns. The survey revealed that 29% thought construction had received “adequate political attention,” with 72% saying that a change in government would have a positive or neutral effect on the industry.</p> <p>But 67% of respondents stated that it was the Help to Buy scheme that had made the most important contribution to the sector in recent times. Going forward, the industry would benefit the most from policies on housebuilding and skills, the majority of participants said.</p> <p>The pre-election poll put Labour at 30% of the vote, the Green Party at 6%, the Liberal Democrats and UKIP sharing 4%, and the Scottish National Party (SNP) and Plaid Cymru with 2% of the vote.</p> <p>Richard Morey, group events director at Media 10, the organisation behind UK …
