Compliance with loft insulation guidance

Feb. 1, 2013
New requirements on loft insulation are reinforcing the importance of ventilating the loft space to ensure optimum energy and carbon savings are achieved, says roof ventilation supplier Glidevale.

Contractors now have a simplified solution to achieving the demands, which are laid out in General requirements & guidance for the installation of loft insulation published by CITB-Construction Skills.

The document says that ventilation in the roofspace should be the equivalent of a continuous 10mm gap at low level, achieved either by adding soffit or fascia ventilation, or slate or tile ventilators. At high level, the equivalent of a continuous 5mm gap should also be considered.

The document also emphasises the need for quality workmanship, to ensure insulation is properly installed and does not block the ventilation.

Glidevale's range of fascia, eaves and ridge ventilation systems and slate and tile ventilators offer contractors the most comprehensive choice of compliance options, the company says. It adds that the range of ventilation systems offer a free ventilation area of up to 20,000mm2 and offer high resistance to deluge and driving rain.

www.glidevale.com
