Barratt keeps top spot as Britain's biggest housebuilder

Barratt has held its spot as Britain’s biggest housebuilder according to Housebuilder’s exclusive Top 75 table which will be revealed on October 9 at the Housing Market Intelligence conference.<br><br>The table ranks Britain’s housebuilders by nine categories including turnover, profit, units built, land and people employed. The ranking is decided by turnover.<br><br>In the year to June 2012 Barratt’s turnover reached £2.287 billion, up 15% on the previous year. Taylor Wimpey is in second place again with turnover of £1.987 billion, up 12%, while Persimmon is third at £1.721 billion, also up 12%.<br><br>Fourth placed Berkeley surged in the year with turnover up 40% to £1.041 billion and Bellway, in fifth, joined the others in the billion club with turnover of £1.004 billion.<br><br>The table – the top 25 of which are revealed on pages 30–31 in this edition of Housebuilder – relies on data collected before Help to Buy was launched, but shows that even prior to that housebuilders were increasing the number of units built.<br><br>Of the top ten housebuilders all but Redrow increased the number of units built in the period.
