The VELUX Solar Integrator: Seamlessly combining healthy attributes of daylight and fresh air with Photovoltaic renewable technology

vx 1

How we construct, heat, light, and maintain buildings, accounts for 40% of energy usage in Europe 1. As the construction industry is beginning to prioritise building sustainably, solar panels are becoming a common feature of new build houses.

In England, changing legislation will see many roofs filled with photovoltaic panels. VELUX® knows that housebuilders should not have to choose between the optimisation of daylight and sustainable energy solutions.

The VELUX Solar Integrator, fits seamlessly into a photovoltaic grid. With a zero-shadow effect ensuring the flashing does not cover the active part of the solar panel, leading to the full utilisation of the solar panels and maximising the generation of energy. The seamless integration also offers an aesthetically pleasing single unit between the VELUX roof windows and the solar panels.

By integrating VELUX roof windows and solar panels, housebuilders can create comfortable and healthy living spaces for homeowners, while allowing for renewable generation of energy. This is essential when we consider that we spend 90% of our time indoors, a statistic only exacerbated by COVID-19 restrictions.

The VELUX Solar Integrator is specifically designed to integrate VELUX roof windows with selected built-in solar panel solutions from key providers including GSE integration and Viridian.

The complete energy roofs, integrated with VELUX roof windows, have been tested in northern Europe’s largest wind tunnel. This ensures robustness by considering 50 years’ worth of weather data.

Optimising renewable energy is set to become a huge priority for homeowners. In 2018, 74% of new build houses in the UK were equipped with solar panels on the roofs 2.  With rising energy bills predicted to put one in four UK households into fuel poverty in 2024 3, we can expect to see homeowners favouring built-in sustainable energy solutions.

Through this product, housebuilders can offer homeowners an innovative solution.

“We recently used the VELUX PV Solar Integrator, combining VELUX windows and GSE PV Solar panels on our award-winning development at Priddy’s Hard, Gosport. The specially designed flashing allowing both products to be installed side by side, has created a seamless integration which looks great. Being able to combine the benefit of bringing daylight through the roof with VELUX, whilst supporting net zero ambitions through use of renewable technologies, really helps us create sustainable, low-energy homes.”
