Halnaker Hill Farm
One of the UK’s largest BNG projects
Halnaker Hill is a 330-acre farm near Chichester in West Sussex. The scheme is one of the UK's largest Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects, restoring and regenerating historic farmland within the South Downs National Park.
Over 20,000 trees have been planted to link with historic woodlands, six kilometres of hedgerows planted, three dew ponds created and 40 hectares of land converted to rare species-rich calcareous grassland, with bespoke wildflower mixes planted, providing a variety of habitat types. Halnaker Hill is also a working farm, with grazing sheep encouraging the growth of wildflower meadows and native British cattle breeds using no-fence collar technology.
Over 850 biodiversity units have been created, spanning the South Downs National Park and South Coast Plain. The site is registered with Natural England and secured through a S.106 agreement with the South Downs National Park Authority.
Biodiversity units are available for immediate allocation to developments requiring off-site units.
