CURTIN-Tom

Tom Curtin

Chief Executive, Curtin&Co

Tom founded Curtin&Co after he stepped down as chief executive of Green Issues Communications – which he also founded – one of the fastest-growing and most successful community relations companies of the last decade; growing from nothing to some 40 people within a decade and entering PR Week’s top 50 companies.

He is also the author of “Managing Green Issues” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2000 and 2007), which advocates many of the aspirations of The Localism Bill and this is embedded in the company’s methodology.

Previously, he was Head of Media Relations at Thames Water Plc at the time of its privatisation, where he dealt with a wide range of environmental issues and led the upgrading of the company’s crisis management procedures. After, he was Head of Corporate Relations for Nirex, leading a large communications team working on the disposal of radioactive waste. He is a scientist (Mathematics and Physics) by training but has spent most of his career in journalism and public relations.

Currently, Tom is a visiting professor on crisis and media at the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, one of the world’s leading business schools ( www.imd.ch )
