I am a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist. I am also a Fellow of various professional institutions and hold a Post-graduate degree (with distinction) in Environmental Geo-technology, having specialised in geotechnical and groundwater related matters for over 40 years, in particular, the investigation and remediation of contaminated land. I also have considerable experience in the design and construction of earthworks, foundations, highways and sewerage infrastructure. As principal partner of W A Consultancy Ltd, I also provide technical due diligence and value engineering advice at the crucial land acquisition stage to a range of clients. Having been active in the construction industry since 1969, (mostly housing orientated) my experience also covers capital works in the UK and overseas. Prior to joining my previous employer, my earlier career also allowed me to evaluate new business opportunities in France, Germany and the USA.
From June 2004 to September 2005, I was a member of the Cabinet Office Remediation Licensing Task Force (RLTF) and continue to be involved with the Environment Agency and other Government Depts concerning a number of important issues presently confronting the UK house-building industry – the most prominent at present being the new Charging Rules that are to be introduced into the Water & Sewerage Sector. Since 2008 I have been a member of BRAC (Building Regulations Advisory Committee) having been appointed by the incumbent Minister in October 2008. I am currently retained by the HBF as one of their Senior Consultants on a pro bono basis.
