Dave Baker has been CEO of Robust Details Limited (RDL) since the company was launched, in May 2004.
RDL is an independent limited company established to implement the 'robust details' alternative to mandatory pre-completion sound testing for new homes, under the provisions of the Building Regulations. It is the only organisation able to approve and manage the use of robust details for Part E of the Building Regulations (in England and Wales). Robust details have also been available for use in Scotland since January 2012 and in Northern Ireland from October 2012.
Prior to his appointment to RDL, Dave was Director of Technical Services at HBF, joining them in 1999. Before this, Dave worked for a number of local authorities in and around London, most recently as Chief Building Surveyor for the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames. Additionally, during his time in local government, he spent ten years as a visiting lecturer in the School of Construction, Housing and Surveying at the University of Westminster.
Dave gained a BSc degree in Building in 1983. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building and a Fellow of the Association of Building Engineers. In 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Edinburgh Napier University.
Dave was awarded an OBE in the 2013 New Year Honours list, for services to the Construction Industry.
