Andy is a n architect with over 30 years’ experience in the design and delivery of housing for the private and public sector.

Previously a consultant at the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government advising on design quality, housing supply and estate regeneration programmes, he was appointed Head of Architecture at MHCLG in March 2019.

He works across planning, housing supply and standards directorates in MHCLG and across other Government departments on architecture and design quality related matters. His areas of expertise are in housing design, masterplanning, sustainability and working with communities at the early stage of projects. His objective is to support Government and industry deliver quality places from his experience as a former practitioner and from the current policy perspective.

He was formerly Chairman of a large, award winning architectural practice specialising in housing, Chair of the RIBA Housing Group, Chairman of the Housing Forum , a cross housing industry membership organisation, and is a member of the NHBC Foundation Expert Panel. He has co-authored influential reports on standards and quality in housing developments.
