Yorkshire Dales to ban city-dwellers

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is planning to ban city-dwelling second-home buyers from its new homes market. House prices in the park average £228,000 – more than ten times the local average household income. The authority plans to restrict occupancy of new homes in 33 villages to those who have lived for more than three years within 684sq miles of the national park. Estate agents will be required to advertise the “local needs” conditions when selling homes or barn conversions.
