Wilcon snaps up Wainhomes

Wilcon has bought Wainhomes in a deal that values the Chester-based developer at £132.5 million. The move will allow Wilcon to get a bigger foothold in the west and north west of England while strengthening its position in the Midlands. <p></p><p>Wain chairman Bill Ainscough and his management team, including chief executive Steve Owen, will join Wilcon, with Ainscough joining the board as a non-executive director. </p><p>Wilcon has bought all but Wain's south west region which will be separated off and run by Ainscough as a new company. </p><p>Wilcon finance director Bob Green said of the purchase: &amp;"We are aiming to establish eight regions of sufficient size across the country and this will allow us to establish a critical mass in those areas. We've been looking around for a purchase for a year or so and Wain fitted the bill. The Wain management team will join us because we realise that we do not know all the answers and Wain has some good ideas and good practices.&amp;" </p><p>Wilcon expects to save around £3.5 million a year.
