White slams “misleading” price indices

Persimmon chairman John White called for more accurate information on house prices, stating that monthly figures from bodies such as the Halifax and Nationwide could be misleading. Instead, he called on them to get together and issue quarterly figures. <br> <br> “The Autumn was always likely to be challenging (for housebuilders),” said White, “but last week’s house price figures did not help. One month figures on such a small poll are misleading.” <br> <br> White was referring to Halifax figures which showed that house prices had fallen 3.6% in September. <br> <br> White told the conference that Persimmon’s strategy to emerge from the downturn was progressing according to plan with further debt repayment, improving volumes and a good forward sales position.<br> <br>
