In October 2010, industry reached the next important milestone in the road to zero carbon – the application of 2010's update to Building Regulations Part L. Under the regulation, housebuilders and developers must achieve approximately a 25% reduction in carbon emissions with their newly built homes, over Part L 2006 standards. This is broadly the equivalent of Code level three. The Zero Carbon Hub says that this Code level has "provided valuable insight into achieving the first step of the journey".
