Trussed rafters top out zero carbon housing project

TRA member Crendon Timber, has provided more than £250,000 for the supply and fix package of trussed rafters to what is believed to be one of the first commercial low-cost Code level six social housing developments in the UK. The 91-home scheme is being delivered by social housing provider Wakefield and District Housing (WDH).<br> <br> Although the £12 million Park Dale scheme in Wakefield incorporates energysaving technologies such as triple glazed windows, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery and a biomass district heating system, the buildings themselves are designed to use traditional materials and methods, including masonry cavity walls and Crendon Timber's trussed rafters for the roofs. <br> <br> Main contractor Bramall Construction has worked successfully with Crendon Timber on several previous projects and chose the company's trussed rafters again for this project. Although the project required much tighter building tolerances than normal to reduce air leakage and cold-bridging, the accuracy employed at Crendon's factory was adequate for this purpose, Crendon says.<br> <br>
