Unlike housebuilding, for instance...</b><br><b>Most of the office were pleased that it was Tony Blackburn. A few of the younger chaps were sticking up for Nell and Tara, but only for obvious hormonal reasons. In the end, I suppose, most people follow the basic herd-instinct to back one of their own. And, let&amp;’s face it, by virtue of age, gender, ethnic origin, sense of humour, and just about every other test, Tony is definitely one of our own.</b><br> Is it, I wonder, too philosophical to draw parallels between our instinctive, collective empathy for the voice of Radio Caroline and housebuilding&amp;’s current recruitment crisis? If you were to select eight representatives from our place to shipwreck on a remote desert island, you&amp;’d have a whole bunch of Tonys to pick from, maybe one Nell and absolutely no Uris or Taras. Let&amp;’s face it, most of us would struggle even to remember when we last met a Rhona, let alone employed one. Housebuilding is hardly a cosmopolitan and diverse industry.<p></p><p> I wondered about this last week when my housebuilding company hosted …
