Thakeham announced as key partner on “Garden Village for the 21st century”

<p><span class="normaltextrun">Thakeham has been picked as one of three smaller housebuilders to deliver the first phase of homes for Welborne, a development dubbed a “Garden Village for the 21<sup>st</sup> century”. </span></p> <p><span>The Buckland Group, lead developer on the scheme in Hampshire, has selected the West Sussex-based Thakeham alongside CG Fry &amp; Son and Pye Homes to build Welborne’s first 600 homes. This first phase is due to begin construction in early 2024.</span></p> <p><span>Thakeham said Welborne was “in every aspect in keeping with the company’s commitment to community creation, sustainability and quality”. The development, which sits just north of Fareham between the South Downs National Park and the Hampshire coast, will feature 6,000 homes, shops, schools, woods, parks, business premises and healthcare facilities “in a modern, sustainable community”.</span></p> <p><span>John Beresford, md of Buckland Development, who led the process of selecting the housebuilders, explained that under Welborne’s business model, the three companies would not pay for the land until the homes were sold. This meant that smaller businesses such as Thakeham would be able to build schemes that would normally be suitable for large, volume housebuilders.</span></p> <p><span>Thakeham is one of a group of 30 businesses that will be involved in Welborne’s delivery. …
