Telford Homes urges sector commitment to embodied carbon

<p>Telford Homes has called upon the industry to better address whole life carbon in its schemes and operations as the business launches its annual sustainability report.</p> <p><span>The London developer has achieved a 10% reduction in embodied carbon in its new schemes against a 2019 baseline, according to its report. The company, which has a focus on Build to Rent development, noted that there were currently no regulations in place for embodied carbon – the amount of carbon emitted during the construction of a building – with the emphasis only on operational carbon.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>Anne Kavanagh, Telford’s ceo, said the developer wished to “move together with the industry” to make meaningful progress on delivering sustainable housing by accurately monitoring and forecasting data through whole life carbon assessments.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>There is a proposed new Building Regulation – Part Z – to potentially assess embodied carbon on all projects.
