Taylor Wimpey announces “Pay It Forward Scheme”

<p><span>Taylor Wimpey has announced a “Taylor Wimpey Pay It Forward Scheme” to help support self-employed </span><span>subcontractors</span><span> during the coronavirus pandemic.</span></p> <p><span>The volume housebuilder explained that its new scheme, to be launched at the end of this week, would make advance payments for future work done by subcontractors “where we have a long term relationship”. Payments of up to £600 a month over a three month period will come via the subcontractor to self-employed individuals who cannot access the government’s self-employment income support scheme “or who will experience significant hardship before that scheme starts to make payments”.</span></p> <p><span>To be eligible, individuals must work for subcontractor firms Taylor Wimpey has approved. Payment will be recovered against future work </span><span>undertaken</span><span> for the firm with no interest charged.</span></p> <p><span>The business has capped its new scheme at £5 million to support around 2,750 people. But it said it would be prepared to extend this when the initiative is “operating successfully”.</span></p> <p><span>Taylor Wimpey will “proactively approach” applicable subcontractors who have worked with the business over the past two years, offering the opportunity to apply for the scheme on behalf of up to 25 self-employed subcontractors per subcontractor </span><span>firm as an initial proposal.</span><span> Applications would be “quickly …
