Stewart Milne to sell timber systems business

<p>Stewart Milne Group is to sell its timber systems business to focus on the growth of its homes division and in response to growing land prices and the sustainability agenda.</p> <p><span>The housebuilder and offsite timber frame manufacturer, which has offices in Scotland and England, said it was taking advantage of Stewart Milne Timber Systems’ (SMTS) position “as the recognised UK market leader by putting the business up for sale at a time when the market is set to grow exponentially”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>Stewart Milne noted increased demand for timber frame, claiming that its use was set to double in the next five years in response to government sustainability targets. It said that with the need to reach zero carbon and also tackle skills shortages, housebuilders were choosing MMC (modern methods of construction) solutions “using renewable sources”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>The business added that SMTS, which has a turnover </span><span>of £100 million,</span><span> had grown substantially in the past five years. Its current order book is “close to” £300 million on the back of “strong customer relationships” with large housebuilders. The group has established a third production facility in central Scotland to cater for increased volumes, while boosting capacity at SMTS’ factories in Aberdeen and Witney.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>But …
