Squished house is a winner

One Centaur Street - a house squeezed onto an infill site next to the Eurostar viaduct in south London, has won RIBA’s London Building of the Year award. “This is a project that pushes at the edges of architecture, both materially and spatially," said jury spokesman Simon Hughes of the house by Rijke Marsh Morgan architects. "It addresses the very difficult issues of location and site neighbourhoods and is a whole new approach to housing.” The house previously won a completed scheme award - the "Building for Life award for the best private sector development at over 70 dwellings per hectare" - in this year's Housing Design Awards.
