Skanska seeks development partners for ModernaHus

Skanska has launched a highly energy efficient off-site construction method into the UK housebuilding market and is looking for developer partners to take on board the new technology for medium rise schemes. The ModernaHus is based on prefabricated structural concrete panels, designed to provide for flexible floorplates in buildings of up to eight storeys. The product has evolved from the eco schemes that Skanska is developing in Sweden. Skanska’s executive vice president Nick Pollard told Housebuilder: “We have no intention of becoming a developer in the UK. We are a builder and we want to work with UK developer partners to maximise the benefits of the ModernaHus in building communities. We are now in discussions with a couple of UK developers involved in large scale projects, and we aim to be in production in the UK from early next year.” He added: “The system provides for the construction of different types of accommodation within a single core. This is about clever engineering. It’s about delivering an integrated solution for community building, particularly in areas such as the Thames Gateway, where housebuilders will be looking to achieve low carbon developments.”
