Senior players in the UK housing industry have come together to form an independent industry group - The Building Back Britain commission - which aims to produce new ideas on how the government can deliver on its dual ambitions to build 300,000 homes a year while reducing emissions from the UK’s residential housing stock.
Commissioners on the group include Barratt ceo David Thomas, NHBC ceo Steve Wood and Thakeham Group ceo Robert Boughton and the commission will be chaired by Terrie Alafat of The Riverside Group. The commission will be supported by an advisory group comprising housing organisations such as the Home Builders Federation, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, RIBA and the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives. This group will help submit data and ideas into the commission.
The group, which was set up by WPI Strategy, will produce two reports this year. The first, due in the autumn, will demonstrate the value of housing to economic recovery and the integral role the sector can play in delivering on the government’s plans to “level up” the UK.
