<b><b>The Secured by Design initiative has cut crime on new-build estates. Tim Palmer finds that doors are on the frontline when it comes to security and now have to comply with tough standards</b></b><br><b>Security is a key driver of change affecting today's door manufacturers. Many have been quick to achieve the Secured by Design (SBD) status for products (<i>see box</i>) under the initiative endorsed by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) which encourages the building industry to design products with enhanced security and crime prevention features. </b><br><b><b>Secure market</b></b><br> PAS 24 - the recognised BSI standard for enhanced security and accreditation - has enabled some manufacturers to increase business as HM Doors' md Jeff Hudson explains: &amp;"PAS and SBD are increasingly popular among private sector housebuilders and a necessity for most public sector new-build and refurbishment.
