Redrow picks new chair

<p><span>Richard Akers is to become Redrow’s new chair from September.</span><br/></p> <p><span>Akers will join Redrow’s board as chair-designate and as an independent non-executive director on June 1. He will work closely with current chair John Tutte during a handover period, taking the reins on September 15 following the announcement of the housebuilder’s 2021 full year results. At this point, Tutte will step down from the board.</span></p> <p><span>Akers has forged a career in property and land acquisition, retiring as a main board director of Land Securities in 2014. Until recently he was on Barratt’s board in a non-executive role, having spent nine years at the company.</span></p> <p><span>He currently holds independent non-executive roles at Unite Group and Shaftesbury where he is senior independent director.</span></p> <p><span>In February 2020, Redrow announced Tutte’s intention to retire from the board ahead of the business’ 2021 AGM. Previously chief executive, Tutte was appointed chair on April 1 2019 following the retirement of founder Steve Morgan from the business.</span></p> <p><span>Tutte said: "It has been both an honour and privilege to work for this great company and serve on the board for approaching 20 years.
