Redrow launches outdoor play campaign

<p><span>Children play outside for two thirds less time than their parents’ generation, according to research from Redrow.</span></p> <p><span>A survey of 2,000 parents reveals a “sharp decline” in outside play, with 73% of respondents also stating that roads are now too dangerous to allow for this. Twenty seven percent say there are not enough safe spaces near their property to play, although according to 36% of the parents, their child spends too much time on social media.</span></p> <p><span>Redrow said its survey pointed to the decline of classic childhood games, including British Bulldog and Leapfrog, through a lack of outside play.</span></p> <p><span>Redrow’s nationwide campaign, “Please Play Here”, is encouraging play outdoors this summer. The housebuilder has partnered with Dr Helen Dodd, child psychologist and professor at Exeter University, to help it create “inspiring play-friendly communities” for its residents. </span></p> <p><span>The firm has also launched a <a href="http://www.redrow.co.uk/playmaking">Playmaking report</a> and recommendations in collaboration with Dr Helen Dodd and Tim Gill, author and advocate for children’s outdoor play.
