Private registrations down – NHBC

<p><span><br/></span></p><p><span>Private new home registrations dropped 6% between November and January against the corresponding period the previous year, NHBC’s latest figures reveal today (February 28).</span><br/></p><p><span>During the 2018/19 rolling quarter, 26,668 new homes were registered in the private sector, whilst those in the affordable sector rose 26% year-on-year to 11,943. Total registrations lifted 2% to 38,611 new homes.</span></p><p><span>Seven out of the 12 UK regions experienced growth in registrations during the November to January period, particularly in Northern Ireland (+65%), Wales (+20%) and the South East (+19%).</span></p><p><span>Four regions saw an increase in private registrations during the period – Northern Ireland (+77%), Wales (+22%), Yorkshire &amp; Humberside (+18%) and the North East (+15%). The rest of the regions saw declines, ranging from -3% (North West &amp; Merseyside) to - 25% (East Midlands).</span><br/></p><p><span>In January, 12,677 new homes were registered, up 9% compared to January 2018. Of these, 8,931 were for the private sector, down on the 9,214 of a year ago, and 3,746 were registered in the affordable market against last year’s 2,469.</span><br/></p><p><span>NHBC’s ceo Steve Wood said: “As a standalone month, the January figures show some solid growth, with a particularly good uplift in the affordable sector.</span><br/></p><p><span>“However, it is clear that Brexit uncertainties are affecting …
