Poll says public accepts need for new homes

People in Britain accept that the nation needs new homes - but do not want them built near where they live. That is the finding of a new YouGov poll commissioned by the House Builders Federation. The survey of more that 2,000 electors found that 72% agreed with the statement that "Britain needs more homes" with 21% disagreeing. But asked if they were happy that new homes were built in their street, 48% opposed (of which two thirds expressed strong opposition) and just 18% supported - only a third of those strongly.
