Pocket Living’s small sites policy gets support

<p>Pocket Living has urged the government to “take action” on its small sites planning policy to aid SME housebuilders, with the chief executive of Barratt supporting the approach.</p><p><span>London-based Pocket Living, which said it had promoted its proposals as part of the government’s review of the delivery process for small sites within its National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) consultation, stated that the approach could deliver up to 1.6 million new homes, according to new research by LDS Sales Guarantees. David Thomas, Barratt’s ceo, commented that “building on more small sites is a simple and effective way to increase housing numbers”.</span></p><p></p><p><span>This follows a campaign by Andrew Lewer MP for a small sites clause, supported by an alliance of more than 40 developers and other industry bodies led by Pocket Living – a “pioneer” of the discounted market sale housing model. This coalition called for “immediate action” to support SME housebuilders with the growing difficulties it faces in the market.</span></p><p></p><p><span>Pocket Living explained that a small sites planning policy would streamline the planning process for SME housebuilders while delivering “much needed” affordable housing “at no extra cost to the Treasury”.
