Planning applications drop by a quarter in 08

Detailed planning applications in the UK dropped by more than a quarter in 2008, with just 1,414 applications submitted for 80,801 homes in the year according to an exclusive new survey for Housebuilder by Glenigan. The survey analyses applications by house type, and reveals that applications for flats fell the fastest, down 32.9%. But the trend was reflected in three of the other four types, with houses down 29.7%, retirement homes down 18.7% and bungalows down 11.3%. Only luxury homes bucked the trend, and that from an extremely low starting point. As with last year Barratt submitted applications for the most units, but at 9,788 this figure was significantly down on its 15,457 figure from 2007. <br>
