Permissions hit “record low” – HBF/Glenigan

<p><span>The number of planning permissions granted across England continues to drop in the face of myriad challenges, with the HBF’s latest Housing Pipeline report revealing an all-time low for projects given consent.</span></p> <p><span><a href="http://www.hbf.co.uk/news/housing-pipeline-report-q2-2023-report-published-september-2023">The Housing Pipeline report</a>, compiled by Glenigan, shows that 2,456 sites received permission in the second quarter of 2023, the lowest since the Housing Pipeline Report began in 2006. This was a 10% decrease on Q1 2023 and 20% down on a year ago, following a 9% slide in Q1 and 9% decline for last year.</span></p> <p><span>And the number of homes approved during Q2 2023 dropped 16% on the previous quarter to 62,681, reflecting a 13% slide on Q2 2022. According to the data, this is the lowest quarterly number of permissioned homes since 2015, leaving aside Q2 2020 which was impacted by Covid shutdowns.</span></p> <p><span>HBF said the figures confirmed industry warnings that new housing supply could fall to “record low levels” in the coming years as housebuilders experience “an anti-development policy environment” and further economic upheavals.
