Part L set to make some areas “a struggle” – Redrow

<p>The upcoming changes to Part L will make building in some areas “a struggle”, Matthew Pratt, Redrow’s ceo, said today (February 10).</p> <p><span>Reporting on the company’s interim results for the six months to December 27 2020, Pratt said the change in Building Regulations – as an interim step towards the Future Homes Standard – would not immediately affect the housebuilder, but for homes built from 2024 the extra costs would “come off the land value. This will put some areas under pressure. There will be some areas where we struggle to build”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>But he said Redrow was confident it could “deal with Part L” despite the cost challenges. The update to Part L features a 31% reduction in carbon emissions for new homes from this year.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>He also indicated that the changes seen in customers’ priorities in response to the pandemic were ingrained. “People are reassessing what is important.
