Housebuilders such as Crest Nicholson and Rydon Construction, as well as housing providers such as L&amp;Q Housing are joining the One Planet Products club. Another brainchild of the BioRegional Development Group, it aims to help its members purchase and specify green construction products, including plasterboards, easily and more affordably. OPP md Mark Watson says: “We identify potential suppliers of environmentally friendly/beneficial products then undertake an assessment in relation to our principles. As a result we list detailed environmental information and costs on our website making it easier for specifiers to make product comparisons.<br><br>“For example there are a number of alternatives to gypsum plasterboards ranging from wet plastering with clay, lime or hemp-lime to clay boards and phase change material boards. “The phase change materials provide thermal mass but without the thickness because when a room is warm it absorbs energy and turns from solid into liquid. As a room cools the material changes back into solid giving out heat in the process.”
