Older people’s task force announced in levelling up plans

<p><span>The government has launched its Levelling Up White Paper, which includes an intention to create a task force to help increase housing choices for older people.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>In its paper, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) stated that for older people “trapped in non-decent or unsuitable accommodation, the UK government will work to increase the choices available to them”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>The task force, it said, would explore how better choice, quality and security of housing for the older population can be provided, while addressing “regional disparities in supply of appropriate and where necessary specialised housing". </span></p><p></p> <p><span>Michael Voges, executive director of Associated Retirement Community Operators, commented that the task force was a “game changing commitment” to levelling up housing and care for older people. </span></p><p><i>“</i><span>This task force has the potential to benefit hundreds of thousands of older people around the country and to put rocket-boosters on the growth of integrated retirement communities,” he said.</span></p><p>John Tonkiss, ceo of retirement housebuilder McCarthy Stone, commented: <span>“</span><span>We have been calling on the government to establish this task force for some time so we warmly welcome this announcement.
