Ochil Timber Products lands "Space house"

Sept. 1, 2013
Scotland based engineered timber manufacturer, Ochil Timber Products, supplied a “Space” timber frame kit for a large private house build at Loch Rannoch, Perthshire. The kit comprises the full complement of ITW Industry offsite engineered “Space” systems, including SpaceStud, SpaceJoist and SpaceRafter.

ITW Industry says that the SpaceRafter roof was manufactured with ITW Industry’s new improved “SJ10” metal web in lengths of more than six metres. The “V” shaped webs space apart two parallel chords, with SPI expanded polystyrene insulation between them for thermal performance expected to exceed the build’s original target U-value of 0.15. The roof system was ordered when the architects discovered cost savings over their original solid timber specification.

Centres were increased from 400 to 600mm with SpaceRafter. The SpaceStud open panel walls were specified for their lightweight, dimensional accuracy and ease of flat pack construction on site, ITW Industry says. The stud makeup consists of parallel C16 home grown uprights, spaced apart with “SpaceStud clips” to achieve 206mm deep timber studs. A 304mm deep SpaceJoist floor system also manufactured with “V” shaped metal webs completes the “Space house.”

www.itw-industry.com
