NHQB launches code of practice consultation

<p><span>The New Homes Quality Board (NHQB) has launched its consultation on a new housebuilder code of conduct.</span></p> <p>The <a href="https://www.nhqb.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/The-Code.pdf"><span>draft new Code of practice for housebuilders</span></a><span class="MsoHyperlink"><span>, </span></span><span class="MsoHyperlink"><span>open for a four week </span></span><span class="MsoHyperlink"><span><span class="font-colour" style="color: rgb(18, 18, 18);">public</span></span></span><span class="MsoHyperlink"><span> </span></span><span class="MsoHyperlink"><span>consultation from today (June 9), covers the New Homes Quality Code which aims to address the gaps in existing protections for customers of new build homes, “</span></span><span>for which the housebuilding industry has been so heavily criticised in recent years,” the NHQB said.</span></p> <p><span></span><span class="font-colour" style="color: rgb(18, 18, 18);">Under the code, housebuilders will need to adhere to a range of additional requirements to fill these protection gaps, so that every element of a new home purchase, from the first sales meeting through to two years after the buyer has moved in, is covered.</span><span></span></p> <p><span>The proposed code will place an emphasis on a strong after-care service, so that housebuilders can resolve “snagging” issues or any other problems that customers have with their new home. It will also instill a robust complaints service, allowing concerns to be dealt with promptly with the customer being kept informed at set times, the NHQB said.</span></p> <p><span>If the customer is not satisfied with the response, …
