NHBC has launched its newest Training Hub in Cambridgeshire today (May 19), built in partnership with the Hill Group.
The purpose-built facility, next to the Histon Football Club, is set to train more than 100 apprentices a year, with an initial focus on bricklaying. It features classrooms, welfare and catering facilities to provide a realistic working environment for apprentices, the new homes warranty and insurance provider said.
This is the third dedicated training facility NHBC has constructed, adding to those in Tamworth and Newcastle, launched in 2021 and last year respectively. The hubs reflect NHBC’s ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of housebuilders, showing them the skills they need to build “high quality new homes,” it said.
It added that the facilities had proved popular with school leavers, career changers and women wishing to enter construction, with numerous cohort intakes being trained throughout the year.
In one example, NHBC pointed to former police constable Jennifer Kehoe who changed careers to undertake a Level 2 bricklaying NVQ apprenticeship at its Training Hub.
