NHBC Foundation launches key advice on EVs

<p><span>The NHBC Foundation has launched a new report advising housebuilders on what they should consider on all new schemes to accommodate electric vehicles (EVs) as the UK aims for net zero greenhouse gas emissions.</span></p> <p><i><a href="https://www.nhbcfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/NF90-Plugging-into-the-future-electric-vehicle-charging-and-new-homes.pdf">Plugging in to the future – electric vehicle charging and new homes</a></i><span> urges the industry to engage with the relevant Distribution Network Operator (DNO) “at the very earliest stage” to ensure there is enough electrical capacity on sites for the number of EV charge points being installed “and to carefully consider the location of the points”.</span></p> <p><span>NHBC said that with the government’s stipulation that all new cars and vans should emit zero emissions by 2035 - as part of its net zero target by 2050 - EVs would become “increasingly common”.</span></p> <p><span>“This will have significant implications for housebuilders, planners and architects since the resulting increase in electric vehicles will require homes to be provided with the necessary equipment for residents to charge their EVs where they live,” it added.</span></p> <p><span>The report also considers the various types of EVs currently available and the different connecting cables and charge points being used.</span></p> <p>Richard Smith, NHBC’s head of standards<span>, innovation and research, said: “We believe our new report …
