NHBC Foundation launches hazardous ground gas guide

<p>Housebuilders are being advised on how to tackle hazardous ground gas with the launch of the NHBC Foundation’s latest report.</p> <p><i>Hazardous ground gas - an essential guide for housebuilders,</i><span> offers guidance and insight on identifying the hazard on sites as well as how to approach initial investigations, assessing ground gas and selecting gas protective measures as part of a range of elements surrounding the issue.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>The advice, developed in partnership with Buro Happold and Environmental Protection Group (EPG), applies to sites of all sizes and all development types.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>Housebuilders can discover how to, among other elements, recognise high risk sites and the appropriate action to take, avoid applying unnecessary gas protection to low risk sites, appoint competent professionals at the right point and undertake assessment, design, implementation and verification.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>NHBC Foundation’s report also explores an advice and as-built gap – gas protection measures are not always included in the structural design of buildings following recommendations of ground investigation reports.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>Richard Smith, NHBC Foundation’s head of standards, research and technical competency, said: </span><span>“Adoption of the good practice procedures described in this report will lead to better quality practice, cost savings and a greater understanding of specific issues around detailing, construction and …
